Christian Gerhaher | Wolf: Italian Songbook

Baritone Christian Gerhaher has already set new standards with his interpretations of the most famous romantic song cycles. On his new album he turns his attention to Hugo Wolf's "Italian Songbook" together with the young German soprano Mojca Erdmann. They are accompanied on the piano by Gerhaher’s long-term musical partner Gerold Huber.

Christian Gerhaher recently accepted the Laurence Olivier Award for ‘Outstanding Achivement In Opera 2011’. The Laurence Olivier Awards is one of the most respected in London theatre’s awards season and have been widely regarded as a mark of theatrical greatness since they were inaugurated in 1976.

Of a performance of the repertoire at the Wigmore Hall, The Guardian wrote:

“…They treated the work as a drama, which, though by no means essential, proved engaging…Erdmann and Gerhaher sang to each other as well as to us, so that the parades of tiffs and reconciliations, raptures and disappointments took on a compelling quality of tangible intimacy…”
